Yesterday’s launch by SheWings was done in association with the Women and Child Development Committee of the PHD Chamber and was attended by among others Anuradha Goel, Chairperson of the committee, Anil Swarup, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy and popular Kathak danseuse and former government official Shovana Narayan. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi launched a menstrual hygiene campaign here on Tuesday.
#YESIBLEED is a social campaign which is not only creating so much awareness about mensuration but also breaking the silly myths around the world like you can worship here, you cannot worship there, Periods are not allowed here, You are impure, You are forced into believing that all these statements are mandatory for your own good, You are enforced into submission in the name of religious belief etc.
A short play titled “The Silent Treatment” was performed by Buniyaad- The Dramatics Society of Vivekananda College, Delhi University, as well.
Popular actor Divya Dutta said, “We need to spread the word; to take up the issue of menstruation in the right way. It has to be done in a campaign mode, not through speeches and meetings.”
The objective of the campaign called “#Yes I Bleed” is to create a holistic approach to the issue of menstruation, which is an experience that transcends culture, class, and caste.
